South Salt Lake Mural Fest - June 2019
This was my first opportunity to design a mural without any specific prompts or goals from the project organizers. The phrase ”Nothing Lasts” has become a personal mantra of mine, and it’s something I've always found very comforting and encouraging. I was eager to put a piece of art out into the community that could convey the positive sides of this complex idea which can come off as dark and pessimistic. But as someone who struggles with anxiety and depression, the phrase reminds me that the dark times won’t last forever, as well as reminding me to enjoy the good times as much as I can.
I used to get more people responding to the phrase as a negative idea, but everything that’s happened in the last couple years has seemed to really change people’s understanding of it. Most people seem thankful for the reminder.
